Since 2014, Russell Chau has been a director and producer specializing in advertising, music videos, documentaries, and cinema. He's passionate about basketball, hip-hop culture, the arts, and Web3.

He's teamed up with prestigious brands like Roll Royce, Maserati, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz, plus sports organizations such as the NBA and Canada Basketball. In 2015, he launched Hoops On The Rise, a media company focused on Canadian basketball. Then in 2020, he founded Sekoya Media, an innovative marketing and talent/creator management agency that helps businesses grow through digital content and social media.

  • The process is always changing, so the soundtrack is constantly being rewritten. However, I'd say most songs by Long Distance Calling best represent the intensity and chaos within me.

  • I try not to hold anything too precious and just let go without any demands or limits. A too-narrow vision often comes from setting an overly rigid goal. I'm generalizing, but photographers tend to obsess over other photographers' work, and filmmakers over other filmmakers'. When you learn to consume and appreciate other forms of media outside your field, your well of inspiration suddenly expands, with infinite potential.

  • Red. Red is a truly striking color. It's a color that gets noticed. Forget the absurdities like 'red means love, passion, intensity' – color is contextual and, for me, it's incredibly impactful and attention-grabbing.

  • I'd design a huge set filled with drama and chaos, something like a battlefield of performers, and let the scene unfold, moving around to different spots to capture the fury of humans in motion. Or, I'd just walk through or around environmental particle explosions frozen in time and space.
